Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TripLedger (the "app") handles your information. The app is developed by Black & White Studio ("we", "us", "our"). By installing or using the app you agree to this policy.

Privacy in one line. Your trip data — tours, members, expenses, deposits and receipt photos — stays in the app's local Room database and never leaves your phone unless you trigger a backup. TripLedger does include Google AdMob (for ads) and Google Play Billing (for the Remove Ads and Tip Jar purchases); sections 8–10 below disclose exactly what those services collect.

1. Who we are

2. Offline-first for trip data

TripLedger is an offline-first group travel manager. Your trip data — tours, members, expenses, deposits, settlements, checklists, itineraries and receipt photos — is stored only in the app's local Room database. We never see it; it is not uploaded to our servers; we have no servers that hold it. The only way trip data leaves the device is if you trigger a Google Drive backup (see section 6) or share a PDF/text export.

The app includes two third-party services from Google to support a free tier and an optional Remove Ads / Tip Jar purchase: Google AdMob (section 8) and Google Play Billing (section 10). Both are disclosed in detail below.

3. What stays on your phone

Everything you create is stored locally in the app's private storage (a Room database plus a private photo folder):

If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this information is permanently deleted from your device.

Your trip data is never shared with third parties. The Google AdMob and Google Play Billing collection above is performed by Google's SDKs embedded in the app, governed by Google's policies. See sections 8–10 for full detail.

6. Optional Google Sign-In & Drive backup

If you enable Google Drive backup, TripLedger requests the Drive scope needed to write to a private app folder (drive.appdata). The app uses this scope only to upload your backup ZIP and to download it on restore. Your backup files are visible only to you in Drive. You can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com.

7. Local backup & restore

TripLedger can write an encrypted local backup file (ZIP including the database and receipt photos) to a location you choose. We never receive it. Restoring is destructive — it replaces the current data — so the app requires explicit confirmation.

8. Ads — Google AdMob

TripLedger's free tier is supported by ads served through the Google Mobile Ads SDK (Google AdMob). The app shows four ad formats:

Google's full disclosure is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and the list of certified ad partners is published on Google's policy site. You can opt out of personalised ads in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, reset your Advertising ID at any time, or remove all ads via the in-app purchase described in section 10. EU/UK users see a Google UMP consent prompt before any ads load, in line with GDPR/UK GDPR.

9. Rewarded ads & 1-hour ad-free pass

If you choose to watch a rewarded video, Google's reward callback fires after the video completes, and the app grants a local 1-hour ad-free pass. The pass is stored only on your device; no personal data is exchanged for the reward beyond the standard AdMob collection described in section 8.

10. In-app purchases — Google Play Billing

TripLedger offers two managed products via the Google Play Billing library:

Payment is processed entirely by Google Play. The app receives only the purchase token and product SKU needed to grant the entitlement — it never sees your payment details (card number, address, etc.). Google's terms apply: play.google.com/about/play-terms. Consumable tips are non-refundable except where required by law; refunds for the Remove Ads purchase follow Google Play's standard policy.

11. Security

Your trip data lives in the app's private storage sandbox, accessible only to the app. Local backups are encrypted. Drive backups are stored in your own Google account and transmitted over HTTPS. Ad and purchase traffic to Google is also encrypted in transit. Because no trip data is uploaded to our servers, there is no server-side copy of your data to be breached.

12. Retention & deletion

We hold no trip data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. To remove everything from your device, delete individual tours / members in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall it. Drive backups can be deleted from the app's settings or directly in Google Drive. You can reset your Android Advertising ID at any time in Android Settings; purchase history is managed by Google Play and remains tied to your Google account until you request its removal through Google.

13. Children's privacy

TripLedger is a general-audience travel/finance utility (rated Everyone / PEGI 3) with a 18+ target audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
