This Privacy Policy explains how Ihsan: Bangla Quran & Salah ("the app", "we") collects, uses and protects information when you use the app. Ihsan is developed by Black & White Studio ("we", "us"), the data controller for the purposes of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR.

Information we handle

• Location — with your permission, the app uses your device's approximate or precise location to calculate prayer times for where you are, determine the Qibla direction and show nearby mosques. You can use the app without granting location by setting a city manually, and you can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.
• Account information — creating an account or signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in, we process the name and email address associated with that sign-in so we can save your bookmarks, reading position and tracker logs across devices.
• Guest mode — if you continue as a guest, your bookmarks, reading position, tracker logs and settings are stored locally on your device and are not associated with an account.
• App activity — bookmarks, reading position, prayer and habit logs, and preferences. These stay on your device in guest mode, and are synced to your account only if you are signed in.
• Device & diagnostic data — limited technical data may be processed to keep the app stable and secure.

Permissions we request and why

• Location — prayer times, Qibla direction and nearby mosques.
• Notifications & exact alarms — to deliver prayer time reminders at the correct moment. Reminders are scheduled on your device.
• Rotation-vector sensor — to power the Qibla compass.
• Internet & network state — to load content such as mosque maps and to sync your data if you are signed in.

Legal bases (UK/EU users)

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent for location access and notifications (which you may withdraw at any time via device settings); performance of a contract to provide the account features you request; and our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure, stable and functioning correctly.

How information is used

We use the information above solely to provide the app's features — calculating prayer times and the Qibla, showing nearby mosques, delivering reminders, saving your reading position and bookmarks, and keeping your trackers up to date. We do not use your data for advertising profiling, and we do not sell your personal information.

Sharing

We do not sell your information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the app — for example map and location services used to display nearby mosques, and hosting providers that store account data if you sign in. These providers process data on our instructions and under their own privacy terms. We may disclose information where required by law.

International transfers

If you are in the UK or EEA and your account data is stored or processed outside your country, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection, including using providers that offer recognised safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Retention

Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you have an account, we keep account data for as long as the account is active; when you delete your account we remove the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations.

Your rights & deleting your data

You can clear locally stored data at any time by deleting it in the app or uninstalling the app. If you created an account, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your data, and you may object to or restrict certain processing. Users in the UK/EEA also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.

To delete your account and its associated data, email info@blacknwhitestudio.com from the address linked to your account and we will action the request.

Children

Ihsan is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Religious content

Quran text, translations, transliteration, tafsir and hadith are reproduced from their respective sources with attribution. We do not infer or record religious beliefs about you as a special category of personal data — the app simply provides the content you choose to read.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
