This Privacy Policy explains how the BandUp application
(com.bnw.ieltsbandup, the “App”), published by
Black & White Studio (“we”, “us”, “our”),
handles information. By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
BandUp stores the following entirely on your device, in the App’s private storage:
- Your saved vocabulary, decks, and look-up history
- Essay and Writing drafts
- Speaking recordings you choose to make
- Practice progress, streaks, XP, and achievements
- Your test date and study planner entries
- App settings (theme, text size, motion preferences)
We do not collect, transmit, or share any of this data. It never leaves your device unless you back it up yourself (for example, through your own device or cloud backup, which is outside our control).
2. Microphone & speaking recordings
The Speaking module can record your spoken answers, but only when you tap the Record button. These recordings are saved solely in the App’s private storage so you can play them back and review yourself. They are never uploaded, shared, transmitted, or analysed off-device. You can re-record over or delete them at any time.
3. Network usage
The App optionally connects to our server to fetch curated word lists and practice content (for example, new IELTS questions delivered over the air). These requests contain no personal identifiers — they are simply requests for new content. We do not log or build a profile from them. The App checks your network state only to skip syncing when you are offline.
4. Permissions we use

- Microphone — to record your own Speaking practice (on-device only, never shared).
5. Third-party services
BandUp does not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash-reporting services, or third-party trackers of any kind. We do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
For word look-ups, the App can open external reference sites in one tap (such as Cambridge, Merriam-Webster, Oxford, Google, a Bengali translator, YouGlish, or Wiktionary). When you open one of these, you leave BandUp and that site’s own privacy policy applies. We do not send them any personal information about you.
6. Children’s privacy
BandUp is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. Because the App collects no personal data at all, no special data deletion is required.
7. Data security & retention
Because your data stays on your device, its security depends on your device’s own protections (screen lock, encryption, etc.). Uninstalling the App removes the data it stored on your device. You may also clear your vocabulary, recordings, and progress from within the App.
8. Your rights
Since we do not collect or hold any of your personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on our servers. You remain in full control of everything on your device.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
